But after removing the drywall and studs in the basement, they discovered that three of the four exterior walls were cracked and beginning to bow. So they booked a free estimate with us here at Frank's Basement Systems to come out and help find a permanent solution to stabilize these walls.

To support the bowing walls in this home's basement, several I-beams were installed per a third-party engineer's drawing. I-Beams are large steel beams that are placed in the ground and then laid against the bowing wall, touching the point where the wall is moving inward the most. The beams are then secured to help stabilize the wall and prevent further inward movement. Additionally, we installed a Smart Jack in the center of the longest joist in the basement to further stabilize the floors above, as our Design Specialist identified slight movement in that area. This will support the joist above, and unlike a masonry support that can shift or a wood post that could rot, these steel piers, which are protected with a thick galvanized coating, won't rust and are installed on a precast pad that is set on a base of compacted stone.
